The Victorian Gothic Skene Manor is built of grey sandstone quarried by Italian stonecutters from the mountain on which it was constructed. The Manor, originally called Mountain Terrace, was built in 1874-75, for New York State Supreme Court Judge Joseph H. Potter (1821-1902). In 1946, it was renamed Skene Manor in honor of Whitehall's founding father, Philip Skene. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, it is owned and operated by Whitehall Skene Manor Preservation, Inc., a local nonprofit dedicated to preserving and restoring the structure.
