Interests and Areas of Expertise
Margaret works with small museums and non-profits, many with limited staff and budgets, to assist with strategies to meet the challenges faced by small organizations. Currently as Heritage Program Director at Lakes to Locks Passage and as the former Director of the Essex County Historical Society, she has spent more than 15 years serving over 300 museum professionals in the Lake to Locks Passage region.
Many of this region's small museums are treasures with stories that connect people and places. The North Star Underground Railroad Museum is a place that celebrates the importance of the Underground Railroad history and shows how the history is relevant to our own time. Poignant exhibits display compelling stories of fugitives from slavery in the Champlain Valley and the Adirondacks.
The North Country Underground Railroad Museum is located directly beside Ausable Chasm where the Ausable River plunges from its headwaters on Mount Marcy towards Lake Champlain cutting through sandstone cliffs with spectacular views. Nature trails, rafting, tubing, camping and kayaking are available.
