Point Au Fer

The name of Point Au Fer means point of fire. The name originates from the Native American’s use of the site as a lookout spot, where they would often use signal fires. However, the British also used the site for signal towers to alert their forces of on-coming American forces.

From this site, you can see for miles down the lake, which has made it a strategic location throughout Lake Champlain history. This site was also the location of an old blockhouse, built by the British and used during the Revolutionary War.
