Seagle Music Colony is the premier opera and musical theatre producing organization in the Adirondack region of upstate New York. A dual-mission organization, SMC is also the oldest and one of the most distinguished summer vocal training programs in the U.S. Each summer, SMC selects 32 of the most talented young vocalists from across the country, via a rigorous audition and application process, to participate in its 9-week residential program. As part of their training by a professional staff, they produce six fully realized productions of opera and musical theatre to a regional ticket buying audience from late June to mid August each summer. Primary performances take place in the 175-seat Oscar Seagle Memorial Theatre, named after the founder of the organization. Oscar Seagle was a renowned singer and teacher who founded the Colony in 1915. It has been in continuous operating since that time, stewarded by Oscar's son John Seagle and the Seagle family for much of its history. Now managed by a professional administration and overseen by an active Board of Directors, SMC has experienced tremedous growth in the past two decades.
